Job Overview:

A law firm seeks an experienced Oil and Gas Attorney to join its growing legal team in Austin, TX. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Texas oil, gas, and energy law, with a particular focus on title examination. Duties:

  • Title Examination: Conduct oil and gas title examinations and prepare drilling, division order, and acquisition title opinions.
  • Legal Advisory: Advise clients on title issues, curative measures, and related oil and gas law matters.
  • Regulatory & Environmental Matters: Provide guidance on compliance with state and federal oil and gas regulations.
  • Transactional Work: Assist in commercial and residential real estate transactions related to the energy sector.
  • Estate & Probate Law: Support clients with estate planning and probate matters connected to oil and gas assets.
  • Litigation Support: Collaborate with the firm’s litigation team on disputes involving mineral rights, lease agreements, and title issues.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in oil and gas law, with an emphasis on title examination.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex title instruments and legal documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • Experience as an in-house or field landman is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Texas (New Mexico licensure is a plus).

Skills:

  • Expertise in oil, gas, and energy law, particularly title examination.
  • Strong legal research and contract drafting abilities.
  • Ability to advise clients on regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Knowledge of real estate and estate planning laws related to oil and gas assets.
