Defense Attorney

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm in Saint Petersburg, FL is seeking an experienced Defense Attorney with expertise in insurance defense litigation. This full-time position offers an opportunity to manage a diverse caseload from presuit through arbitration and trial, working closely with clients and colleagues in a collaborative, dynamic environment. The successful candidate will have a strong background in handling complex defense cases and will be expected to utilize creative strategies while adhering to Florida and federal rules of civil procedure.

Location:

• Saint Petersburg, FL

Duties:

• Manage a caseload from presuit through arbitration and trial
• Handle depositions, discovery, trial pleadings, and court appearances
• Represent clients in trial and arbitration with confidence and tenacity
• Apply Florida and federal rules of civil procedure, e-filing, and court deadlines
• Develop and execute creative defense strategies
• Provide strategic advice to clients on business and legal matters
• Deliver seminars to clients on relevant legal topics
• Review and evaluate medical records in litigation matters
• Maintain an organized, detail-oriented approach to handling cases
• Exhibit excellent communication, writing, and research skills
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, attorneys, and staff

Requirements:

• 3+ years of insurance defense experience
• In-depth knowledge of Florida Bar rules and federal rules of civil procedure
• Admission to the Florida Bar (required)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Westlaw, and/or Lexis
• Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Licensed to practice law in the State of Florida (required)

Skills:

• Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills
• Experience in managing high-volume litigation cases
• Creative and strategic approach to defense litigation
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
