Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its Class Action practice group in Chicago, IL. This role offers the opportunity to represent individuals in large-scale class action lawsuits, focusing on high-profile cases with substantial impact. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in class action litigation, including expertise in class certification, settlement negotiations, and strategic case management. Attorneys in this practice group have a track record of securing significant settlements and verdicts in complex cases, ranging from consumer protection to product liability.

Location:

  • Chicago, IL

Duties:

  • Manage and litigate class action cases from inception to resolution, including developing case strategies.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support case arguments and motions.
  • Lead the preparation and filing of critical motions, including class certification, Daubert motions, and motions for summary judgment.
  • Oversee the discovery process, including drafting discovery requests, responding to motions, and coordinating with experts.
  • Regularly communicate with clients, class members, and experts to keep them informed throughout the litigation process.
  • Take and defend depositions of class representatives, fact witnesses, and experts.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple class action cases simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with legal teams to ensure effective case management and strategy development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including mentoring junior attorneys and paralegals.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in complex litigation, with a focus on class actions, mass torts, or large-scale legal matters.
  • Proven experience managing class action lawsuits, including expertise in class certification and settlement processes.
  • Strong litigation skills, with experience handling motions, briefs, and legal documents.
  • Ability to manage and lead legal teams, including paralegals and associates.
  • Excellent communication skills, both in court and with clients, experts, and class members.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to anticipate legal challenges and adapt to evolving case dynamics.
  • Open to receiving constructive feedback with professionalism and confidence.
  • Active license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction(s) and in good standing with the state bar.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Strong academic record preferred.

Certifications:

  • Active and good standing membership with the state bar(s) where the attorney will be practicing.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of class action laws, rules, and procedures, including class certification and settlement processes.
  • Strong litigation and trial preparation skills.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and drafting abilities.
  • Experience managing complex litigation cases and leading legal teams.
  • Proficiency in managing discovery, depositions, and expert coordination.
  • Effective communication and client management skills.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to lead case development and adapt to changing circumstances.
