Job Title: Defense Litigation Associate Attorney - Asbestos

Job Overview:
A respected law firm in Albany, NY, is looking to hire an experienced Defense Litigation Associate Attorney for its growing Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team. This role will focus specifically on the firm's asbestos litigation practice, representing clients in a variety of industries in both state and federal courts. The position offers the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across multiple offices, manage complex cases, and contribute to a well-established and expanding team.

Duties:

  • Take and defend depositions regularly.
  • Research and develop proactive defense strategies in collaboration with senior attorneys.
  • Navigate claims through various stages of resolution, including dismissal, settlement, motion practice, or trial.
  • Draft legal documents such as memoranda, pleadings, motions, etc.
  • Represent clients in courtroom appearances.
  • Maintain a billable hour requirement of 1900 hours annually.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in toxic tort matters, including asbestos defense (preferred).
  • Admission to practice law in New York is required.
  • Admission to practice law in Connecticut, Massachusetts, or New Jersey (or eligibility to waive into New Jersey) is preferred.
  • Strong familiarity with video conferencing platforms such as Zoom and MS Teams for depositions and court conferences.
  • Ability to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including occasional overnight trips.
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload effectively.
  • Capacity to quickly learn and adapt to new legal issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Commitment to high standards of performance and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
  • Military experience is welcomed and valued.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
  • Additional certifications in Connecticut, Massachusetts, or New Jersey are preferred.
