Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Agent with a strong background in immunology or related biochemical disciplines. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team focused on life sciences patent prosecution. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience in patent prosecution, with expertise in antibody technology, cell therapies, vaccines, and other biologics-based therapeutics. 

Location:

  • New York, NY

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute life sciences patents, specifically related to immunology, antibody technology, cell therapies, vaccines, and biologics-based therapeutics.
  • Work closely with attorneys and clients to develop patent strategies and manage intellectual property portfolios.
  • Conduct patentability assessments and provide strategic advice on patent protection.
  • Prepare patent applications and responses to office actions.
  • Assist in preparing legal briefs and preparing for patent-related litigation matters.
  • Provide technical expertise and support in intellectual property matters related to life sciences.
  • Collaborate with a team of professionals to manage and grow the practice.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years of experience as a patent agent with a focus on life sciences and patent prosecution.
  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Biochemistry, or a related biochemical discipline (M.S. with appropriate industry experience may be considered).
  • Strong proficiency in biochemistry and familiarity with antibody technology, cell therapies, vaccines, and biologics-based therapeutics.
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Strong writing skills and analytical ability.
  • Registration with the USPTO is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates without USPTO registration but with drafting experience and the ability to sit for the patent bar may also be considered.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Biochemistry, or related field. (M.S. with relevant industry experience may be considered).

Certifications:

  • Registration with the USPTO is preferred.
  • Candidates who have not yet passed the patent bar but possess relevant experience may be considered for technical specialist roles.

Skills:

  • Expertise in immunology, antibody technology, vaccines, and biologics-based therapeutics.
  • Strong patent prosecution experience, including drafting and filing applications.
  • Ability to conduct patentability assessments and manage client IP portfolios.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
