Job Overview:
A well-regarded law firm is seeking an Entry-Level Immigration Attorney in Chicago, IL, to join its expanding team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a new attorney to work on a variety of immigration cases, manage a caseload, and collaborate with a dedicated team of immigration attorneys and legal assistants. The role involves significant client interaction and the chance to develop in a supportive, growth-oriented environment.

Location:

Duties:

  • Explain immigration concepts and present strategic solutions to clients
  • Represent detained and non-detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
  • Manage an active caseload with regular client interaction
  • Conduct intakes and interviews with detained individuals at detention centers
  • Prepare diverse immigration applications, including those for removal defense and family-based petitions
  • Review and make adjustments to immigration application packets as necessary
  • Work with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations on updates to immigration law
  • Conduct strategic consultations with potential clients to develop case plans
  • Develop case strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court/USCIS testimony
  • Provide legal analysis to assess case benefits for clients
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for a range of immigration cases

Requirements:

  • 0-3 years of experience in immigration law
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred, but not required)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to client service
  • Experience with family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, EOIR, detained cases, citizenship applications, and other USCIS applications (preferred)
  • Familiarity with case management software (preferred)

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active bar admission (or recent law graduates awaiting admission will also be considered)

Skills:

  • Knowledge of immigration law and case management practices
  • Excellent communication skills for client interactions
  • Strong organizational and caseload management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced legal environment and handle multiple responsibilities
