Job Overview:

A law firm seeks a skilled Community Associations Law Attorney to represent developers, lenders, landlords, and community associations in various legal matters. The attorney will handle complex commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, purchases, financing, and leasing. This role also involves assisting with forming, registering, governing, and complying with community associations for residential, commercial, and mixed-use condominiums. The ideal candidate will demonstrate high expertise in community association law and have a proven track record of managing timely closings and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represent developers, lenders, landlords, and community associations in legal matters.
  • Manage commercial real estate transactions, including acquisition, purchase, financing, and leasing.
  • Assist with community association formation, registration, governance, and compliance for various types of condominiums.
  • Review, analyze, negotiate, and draft legal documents such as agreements, deeds, loan documents, leases, declarations, and covenants.
  • Oversee and coordinate efforts to ensure timely closings and meet project milestones.
  • Demonstrate high attention to detail and perseverance in legal work.
  • Interpret governing documents, provide guidance on association governance, prepare amendments to governing documents, and address fair housing issues.
  • Conduct specialized training for boards of directors, committees, and managers.
  • Participate in community associations and industry organizations like the Community Associations Institute (CAI).
  • Contribute articles to relevant publications and participate in chapter events.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Virginia.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in community association law.
  • Proven experience in interpreting governing documents, providing governance guidance, preparing amendments, and addressing fair housing issues.
  • Strong knowledge of community association law, real estate law, and related areas.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and meet deadlines effectively.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Extensive involvement in the community associations industry.
  • Experience conducting specialized training for board directors, committees, and managers.
  • Active participation in industry organizations like the Community Associations Institute (CAI).
