A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney to join its growing legal team in Houston, TX. This full-time position offers a collaborative work environment where attorneys will have the opportunity to work directly with a supervising attorney and support staff. The role focuses on managing client matters, drafting legal documents, attending hearings, and helping shape legal strategies. The ideal candidate will be organized, motivated, and committed to providing high-quality legal services.

Duties

  • Maintain a target of 35 billable hours per week
  • Assist the supervising attorney with case management and legal strategy development
  • Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents
  • Ensure compliance with statutory deadlines and procedural requirements
  • Participate in hearings, mediations, trials, and arbitrations as necessary
  • Maintain and build relationships with clients, providing prompt responses (typically within 24 hours)
  • Prepare for strategy meetings by understanding the facts of the case and procedural status
  • Track upcoming hearings, deadlines, and trial dates, using case management software
  • Continuously evaluate cases to ensure that client goals are being effectively met
  • Stay current on legal developments and complete required continuing legal education

Requirements

  • 3-7 years of experience practicing law
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in the State Bar of Texas
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Proven time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking abilities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing client matters
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent legal software
  • Comfortable working remotely for part of the week after the initial training period

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active Texas Bar license
