Job Title: eDiscovery Counsel

Job Overview:
A distinguished law firm located in Chicago, IL, is seeking an experienced eDiscovery Counsel to provide expert guidance on eDiscovery and Information Governance in complex litigation and investigation matters. This role requires strong legal research capabilities, proficiency in drafting complex discovery-related documents, and the ability to manage and work collaboratively with client teams and co-counsel on various client workstreams.

Duties:

  • Offer insightful legal analysis and practical solutions on eDiscovery and Information Governance issues.
  • Advise team members across the firm on relevant laws, interpreting legal documents to guide sound, risk-conscious decisions.
  • Maintain firm awareness of new laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the business; assist in policy development and training initiatives.
  • Meet established timekeeping and time-entry standards.
  • Develop and execute a business development plan targeting new and existing clients for additional engagement opportunities.
  • Lead client projects and engagements with minimal oversight, ensuring high-quality, precise deliverables.
  • Mentor junior team members and cultivate a cohesive team dynamic to enhance client value.
  • Provide technical knowledge, insight, and client engagement leadership.
  • Handle a diverse client portfolio and support thought leadership initiatives within industry-relevant organizations.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a law firm setting, with a focus on eDiscovery.
  • Proven ability to draft a variety of complex legal documents including memoranda, correspondence, ESI agreements, protective orders, and other discovery-related materials.
  • Strong capability to manage client-facing meetings, custodian interviews, and motion hearings, alongside coordinating with merits firms and co-counsels.
  • Involvement in industry-relevant groups, with a demonstrated ability to support firm initiatives on thought leadership and professional development.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar admission in at least one of the following jurisdictions: California, Illinois, Minnesota, Virginia, or Washington, D.C.

Skills:

  • Outstanding judgment and ability to operate effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a focus on client management and complex legal concepts.
  • Strong technical skills, especially with Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership in one or more practice areas valuable to the firm.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in legal principles related to eDiscovery, information governance, and data privacy.
