A law firm in Washington, D.C., is seeking an IP Life Sciences Patent Agent with expertise in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, immunology, molecular biology, or related fields. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the firm's life sciences practice, providing patent prosecution services and strategic IP counsel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patent prosecution, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the life sciences sector.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to strategize on patent portfolio development and management.
  • Perform patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Assist in due diligence investigations and technology transactions involving intellectual property.
  • Stay current with developments in patent law and regulations affecting the life sciences industry.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, inventors, and attorneys regarding patent matters.

Requirements:

  • PhD or MD in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, oncology, or a related field.
  • Post-doctoral experience is desirable.
  • USPTO registration number in good standing.
  • Superior academic credentials, including excellent grades and research accomplishments.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Experience:

  • 1+ years of legal practice experience, preferably at a law firm, focusing on life sciences patent prosecution.
  • Familiarity with patent drafting, prosecution procedures, and IP strategy in the life sciences sector.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
