Job Overview:

A law firm in Minneapolis, MN, is seeking an experienced BIS, OFAC, and International Trade Lawyer. This role requires extensive knowledge of U.S. export controls, sanctions, customs regulations, and other international trade-related areas. The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in counseling, compliance, and regulatory matters and will be adept at handling complex legal issues and investigations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal counsel on U.S. export controls (BIS), sanctions (OFAC), customs regulations (including tariffs), and other international trade-related matters.
  • Conduct training sessions for clients and internal teams on compliance with international trade regulations.
  • Manage licensing processes, prepare opinion work, and handle regulatory filings.
  • Perform compliance audits and internal investigations to ensure adherence to relevant regulations.
  • Respond to government enforcement actions and develop strategies for addressing regulatory issues.
  • Create and implement compliance policies and procedures tailored to clients' needs.
  • Engage in investigations related to FCPA, CFIUS, and other national security matters as needed.
  • Collaborate with other legal professionals and departments to provide comprehensive legal solutions.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in U.S. export controls (BIS), sanctions (OFAC), customs regulations, and international trade law.
  • Demonstrated experience in counseling, compliance training, licensing, opinion work, and regulatory filings.
  • Proven track record in handling compliance audits, internal investigations, and responding to government enforcement actions.
  • Experience with investigations related to FCPA and national security matters (CFIUS) is a plus.
  • Strong communication and writing skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts.
  • Active membership in the DC Bar is required.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a top-tier law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the DC Bar.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of international trade regulations, including BIS, OFAC, and customs laws.
  • Ability to develop and implement compliance policies and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
