Job Title: Student Services and Disabilities Associate Attorney

Job Overview: A prominent law firm is seeking a motivated and skilled Student Services and Disabilities Associate Attorney to support senior associates, counsel, and partners. The role focuses on legal matters concerning students from pre-school to 12th grade, primarily related to special education, disability rights, and discrimination. Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel and support on various student services and disabilities issues, including special education law and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Handle litigation and support clients in cases related to students' rights, including interactions with state and federal agencies like the California Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH), California Department of Education (CDE), and the Federal Office for Civil Rights (OCR).
  • Conduct legal research, draft motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and other professionals on case strategies and client representation.
  • Attend hearings, mediations, and other legal proceedings as needed.
  • Advise clients on matters of disability discrimination, access, and other educational concerns.

Requirements:

  • 0-5 years of experience in law with a focus on student services or disability law.
  • Strong research and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Education:

  • J.D. (Juris Doctor) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admitted to practice law in the state of California (or eligible for admission).

Skills:

  • Strong legal writing and research skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with special education laws, Section 504, ADA, and other disability-related legal issues.
  • Knowledge of litigation processes, especially in the context of education law.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with clients.
