A law firm seeks an experienced Biotech Patent Agent to join its intellectual property team in Chicago, IL. This role involves providing high-level patent application preparation, prosecution, and client counseling within the biotechnology sector. Duties

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications in biotechnology, ensuring comprehensive documentation and adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Conduct legal and technical research to support patent strategies and opinions.
  • Provide expert client counseling on patent-related matters, addressing client-specific needs and innovations.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and technical advisors to deliver superior intellectual property solutions for clients.
  • Analyze and interpret complex scientific data and research findings to strengthen patent applications.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of experience in intellectual property, particularly in patent preparation, prosecution, and client advisory roles.
  • Strong technical background in biology, genetics, cell biology, microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field.
  • Proficient writing and analytical abilities with the capacity to manage complex patent documents.
  • Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for at least three years.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, genetics, cell biology, microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field.
  • Advanced technical degree (preferred but not required).

Certifications

  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills

  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting scientific research and patent laws.
  • Proficiency in drafting and prosecuting patent applications with accuracy and detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to provide clear, client-oriented guidance.
