Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent with a background in electrical engineering, software, or a related field to join its Electrical Engineering & Software team. The role offers the opportunity to work on patent prosecution and litigation, specifically in the areas of networking, software, and wireless technologies. The ideal candidate will have 2-6 years of legal experience, a solid understanding of intellectual property law, and be a member of the USPTO. Location:

  • San Francisco, CA 

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patents related to electrical engineering, software, and other technologies
  • Manage patent portfolios and provide strategic legal counsel
  • Support patent litigation, including conducting patentability assessments and providing litigation support
  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure patent applications are aligned with business and technical strategies
  • Perform freedom-to-operate and infringement analyses
  • Represent clients in various aspects of patent law, including enforcement and defense

Requirements:

  • 2-6 years of experience in intellectual property law, including patent prosecution and litigation
  • Background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field
  • Design engineering experience with a chip company is a plus
  • Preference for candidates with experience in networking, software, 3G/4G/5G wireless technologies
  • Must be admitted to the USPTO
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and research abilities

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field

Certifications:

  • Must be a member of the USPTO

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of patent prosecution and litigation processes
  • Expertise in electrical engineering, software, and wireless technologies
  • Ability to conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses
  • Skilled in drafting and filing patent applications
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication abilities
