Job Overview
A leading law firm is seeking an experienced International Estate Planning Associate or Senior Associate to join its Private Client Practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cross-border estate planning, particularly for high-net-worth individuals and multinational families. This position offers the flexibility to work from multiple office locations, with the option for a hybrid work schedule. Candidates should be ready to work in a dynamic, collaborative environment while providing sophisticated legal counsel to clients with international estate planning needs.

Duties

  • Advise U.S. and non-U.S. taxpayers on international estate planning, cross-border tax issues, and wealth management strategies.
  • Manage estate planning for multinational families, addressing complex cross-border tax considerations and legal issues.
  • Assist clients with foreign trusts, pre-immigration and expatriation planning, and the purchase of U.S. property by non-U.S. persons.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. tax reporting obligations for clients with overseas interests in foreign accounts, corporations, and trusts.
  • Provide customized legal solutions for high-net-worth individuals, addressing both tax and non-tax issues.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive estate planning and trust administration services.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across various practice areas to ensure a holistic approach to client needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in international estate planning, particularly in cross-border tax and wealth management.
  • Strong technical skills in international estate planning, including cross-border taxation and legal structures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly.
  • Proven ability to work independently, while also being a team player in a collaborative, multi-office setting.
  • Ability to proactively identify and solve client and team issues, providing creative legal solutions.
  • Must be licensed and in good standing in the jurisdiction where the position is based.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the bar of the jurisdiction where the position is based.

  • Expertise in international estate planning and cross-border tax issues.
  • Strong technical writing skills for drafting trusts, estate planning documents, and tax filings.
