A law firm seeks a skilled Senior Immigration Attorney to join their team in San Juan, PR. This position is ideal for an experienced immigration attorney looking for an opportunity to manage a diverse caseload, work closely with clients, and contribute to a dynamic team of legal professionals. As the Senior Attorney, you will play a key role in leading cases and providing mentorship to junior attorneys, all while collaborating with a group focused on achieving exceptional outcomes for clients.

Duties:

  • Provide expert legal counsel to clients on a wide range of immigration matters.
  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals, including both detained and non-detained individuals.
  • Manage a variety of complex immigration cases, ensuring timely and effective case progression.
  • Conduct intake interviews with detained clients at detention centers.
  • Prepare and submit a range of immigration applications, such as removal defense and family-based petitions.
  • Review, edit, and adjust immigration applications to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Engage with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations regarding changes and developments in immigration law.
  • Meet with prospective clients to assess their legal needs and determine appropriate strategies for their cases.
  • Develop case strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court hearings and USCIS interviews.
  • Conduct legal analysis to identify the potential advantages or risks of immigration cases.
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for various immigration matters.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5-8 years of experience practicing immigration law.
  • Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and ensure the advancement of legal cases.
  • Strong team player with a collaborative mindset and willingness to share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, capable of interacting with diverse clients and legal professionals.
  • Experience with family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, EOIR, detained clients, citizenship, and other USCIS applications.
  • Familiarity with case management software is preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the bar association of the jurisdiction in which the attorney will practice.

Certifications:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in Puerto Rico.

  • Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
