Civil Litigation Attorney

Job Overview: A reputable law firm located in Chicago, IL, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Civil Litigation Attorney to join its dynamic team. The firm specializes in defending employers in Workers’ Compensation and General Liability matters across multiple states. This role is ideal for an attorney passionate about general liability and civil claims defense.

Duties:

  • Gather and analyze medical evidence and medical records.
  • Conduct depositions of plaintiffs, physicians, experts, and other relevant parties.
  • Manage discovery processes and legal research.
  • Draft various legal documents, including pleadings, findings of fact, motions, briefs, and opinions.
  • Represent clients at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, and other legal proceedings.
  • Maintain communication with claims representatives.
  • Assist in investigating and analyzing accidents and potential claims.
  • Control costs to mitigate liability.
  • Compile and submit necessary reports to management.
  • Coordinate and participate in claims reviews.
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients and insurance carriers.
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) and proof of admission to the Illinois Bar.
  • Strong interest in general liability and civil claims defense in Illinois.
  • Familiarity with legal principles and practices.
  • Comprehensive understanding of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Proficient in legal research techniques and legal terminology.
  • Experience with legal software is preferred.
  • Commitment to maintaining client and firm confidentiality.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Illinois Bar.
