Job Overview: A leading law firm is seeking a mid-level Tax Associate to join its Affordable Housing and Tax Credit Team. This position offers a unique opportunity for a lateral associate to work in an expanding, dynamic team specializing in affordable housing projects. The role provides the chance to handle complex legal matters involving tax credits, partnership tax law, and real estate transactions, while serving both for-profit and nonprofit developers across multiple U.S. markets.

Location:

  • Orlando, FL

Duties:

  • Advise clients on the development, acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, operation, and sale of affordable multifamily housing projects.
  • Represent both for-profit and nonprofit developers in utilizing a range of federal, state, and local affordable housing programs.
  • Provide guidance on tax matters, specifically related to federal income tax credits and partnership tax issues.
  • Draft and review legal documents and agreements related to affordable housing transactions and tax credits.
  • Collaborate with team members and clients to provide innovative legal solutions for complex housing projects.
  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships through high-quality service and expert advice.

Requirements:

  • At least two years of relevant experience in partnership tax law, with a focus on federal income tax credits.
  • Strong background in accounting and a deep understanding of tax laws related to affordable housing.
  • Active member (in good standing) of any state bar.
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage complex projects and deadlines.

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting (required).
  • LLM in Taxation (preferred).

Certifications:

  • Active state bar membership (in good standing).

Skills:

  • Expertise in partnership tax law and federal income tax credits.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
