A law firm is seeking a highly skilled Mid-level Intellectual Property Attorney with a strong background in Biology or Biotechnology to join its team in Wilmington. The candidate will be responsible for providing patent counseling, managing procurement activities, and offering strategic IP guidance to clients. There are also opportunities for involvement in licensing and enforcement.

 

Job Duties

  • Counsel clients on effective intellectual property strategy options.
  • Provide comprehensive IP related due diligence for opinions, including patentability, freedom to operate, and infringement and invalidity analyses.
  • Prepare and prosecute complex patent applications.
  • Manage global patent portfolios across multiple jurisdictions by instructing foreign patent counsel in the prosecution of foreign counterpart applications.
  • Consult with inventors, technical experts, and patent portfolio managers to ensure the thorough development and protection of intellectual property.
  • Assist with IP licensing and enforcement activities as required.

 

Requirements

Ph.D. or MS in a biology discipline (e.g., molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, or biotechnology).

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of 4 years of patent prosecution experience.
  • Proven experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications.
  • Experience managing global patent portfolios and providing client counseling.
  • Experience in opinion development regarding patentability, freedom to operate, infringement, and invalidity analyses.

 

Certifications:

  • Active USPTO Registration.
  • Good standing in the bar(s) where licensed to practice law.
