A law firm seeks a skilled mid-level associate to join its International Arbitration team in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience in handling complex international arbitration matters, including commercial contracts and international investment treaties. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with senior attorneys on high-value, intricate cases, while also taking on significant responsibilities in drafting submissions, managing research, and liaising with clients and experts.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with partners and team members to formulate case strategies and theories.
  • Take an active role in drafting written submissions and managing junior team members in the process.
  • Lead research efforts and manage document review processes.
  • Assist in preparing witness and expert evidence for hearings.
  • Maintain direct communication with clients, witnesses, experts, tribunals, and opposing counsel.
  • Help develop individual expertise and advocacy skills within the firm’s collaborative and merit-driven culture.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience in international arbitration, with a focus on commercial and/or investment arbitration.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex international arbitration cases.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Membership in good standing with the District of Columbia Bar or eligibility to become sworn into the District of Columbia Bar upon employment.
  • Proficiency in additional languages, particularly Russian, is highly valued.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent law degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Bar of a jurisdiction, preferably the District of Columbia, or eligibility for admission.

Skills:

  • Strong writing skills with the ability to present arguments clearly, persuasively, and concisely.
  • Expertise in legal research with the ability to identify key issues and provide innovative solutions.
  • In-depth understanding of the legal and procedural aspects of contract and treaty arbitration.
  • Ability to structure written work effectively and meet the demands of the case.
  • Strong oral advocacy skills, with the ability to present arguments confidently and persuasively.
