A law firm seeks a skilled mid-senior level litigation attorney with 5-10+ years of experience to join a fully remote team. The ideal candidate will specialize in governmental defense, particularly in bodily injury/personal injury (BI/PI), labor and employment defense, and abuse claims involving alleged misconduct. This role will focus primarily on representing government clients and educational institutions, though prior experience in these sectors is not required. The attorney will handle complex and high-exposure cases, providing legal defense and counsel in areas of law that impact public sector entities.

Duties

  • Represent government clients in BI/PI defense (80% of caseload), labor and employment defense (10%), and abuse claims (10%).
  • Manage and execute trial preparations, including drafting and arguing substantive motions (at least 10 substantive motions).
  • Take and defend depositions independently, with a target of at least 25 substantive depositions per year.
  • Provide strategic legal advice on sovereign immunity issues, particularly in cases where federal law may apply.
  • Conduct incident investigations and client consultations, requiring travel to Gainesville or nearby cities (up to twice per month).
  • Effectively manage a diverse caseload, prioritizing complex cases and ensuring deadlines are met while maintaining high-quality client service.

Requirements

  • 5-10+ years of relevant litigation experience, including trial work, preferably with governmental or educational institutions.
  • Must be comfortable handling complex legal matters and representing clients in sensitive cases.
  • At least 1-2 years of first-chair or second-chair trial experience.
  • Experience in drafting and arguing substantive or case dispositive motions.
  • A proven track record of managing significant case depositions independently.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a large caseload in a remote work environment.
  • Must be a member in good standing with the Florida Bar.
  • Reside in or near north-central Florida, with the ability to travel for client meetings and case investigations.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the Florida State Bar.

Skills

  • Litigation Experience: Expertise in BI/PI defense, labor and employment law, and abuse claims, with a proven ability to manage trials and depositions.
  • Client Service: Ability to develop strong relationships with government and educational institution clients.
  • Independent and Self-Starter: Must be proactive, and able to work independently in a fully remote environment.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think on your feet during complex legal challenges.
  • Travel Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel for client consultations and case investigations twice per month.

Benefits

  • Fully remote work opportunity, offering flexibility in managing your caseload.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid time off and other wellness programs.
  • Competitive billable hour target and performance incentives.

This is an excellent opportunity for a litigation attorney seeking a challenging yet flexible role, with the chance to support governmental clients in high-exposure legal matters.
