A law firm seeks a skilled and motivated Land Use and Zoning Attorney to join their legal team. This role is ideal for an experienced attorney passionate about real estate, zoning, and municipal law. The position combines the flexibility of remote work with opportunities for in-person hearings and meetings as required. The attorney will provide expert legal counsel on various land use and zoning matters in the Chicagoland area, including Cook, Lake, and DuPage counties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and strategic guidance to clients on issues related to property acquisition, zoning ordinances, annexation, development planning, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution.
  • Develop tailored strategies for navigating land use regulations, including zoning maps and text amendments, subdivision regulations, development agreements, and annexations.
  • Represent clients in hearings before municipal and county boards, handling matters such as variances, special use permits, appeals, and zoning decisions.
  • Advocate for clients in administrative adjudication proceedings throughout the Chicagoland area, as well as in occasional land use litigation.
  • Analyze complex real estate, zoning, and municipal law issues to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Draft and review legal documents, agreements, and other materials related to land use and zoning matters.
  • Collaborate with clients to address and resolve disputes with municipal authorities and neighboring property owners.

Required Qualifications

  • Active license to practice law in the state of Illinois.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in land use, zoning, municipal law, or real estate-related litigation.
  • Proven ability to represent clients before municipal and county boards on zoning-related matters.
  • Experience advocating for clients in administrative adjudication hearings.
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong public speaking abilities, particularly in advocacy settings before boards or administrative bodies.

  • Demonstrated expertise in providing counsel on zoning ordinances, development agreements, subdivision regulations, and annexations.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to resolve complex legal challenges effectively.

Educational Background and Certifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Job Location
