Job Title: Immigration Attorney

Location: Bakersfield, CA

Job Overview: A law firm is seeking an experienced Immigration Attorney to handle a diverse caseload, including removal proceedings and immigration petitions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a thorough understanding of immigration law, manage a substantial workload, and engage effectively with clients, law enforcement, and community organizations.

Duties:

  • Explain complex immigration concepts and present strategic solutions.
  • Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Manage a diverse caseload of immigration cases efficiently.
  • Conduct intakes and visits with detained individuals at detention centers.
  • Prepare and review immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions.
  • Review and make necessary adjustments to immigration applications/packets.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations regarding changes in immigration law.
  • Meet with potential clients to provide strategic immigration consultations and develop necessary case strategies.
  • Develop and implement strategies for clients and witnesses, including preparation for court/USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis to determine possible benefits for clients' cases.
  • Prepare and submit legal briefs for a range of immigration cases.

Requirements:

  • 1-4 years of experience in Immigration Law.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Proven ability to move legal cases forward and manage a substantial caseload.
  • Experience with Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian cases, EOIR proceedings, Legal Writing, Detained cases, Citizenship, and other USCIS applications.
  • Familiarity with Case Management Software is preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a collaborative team-oriented approach.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of California.

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of immigration law and procedure.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in case management and legal documentation.
