The attorney will work closely with school administrators and educators to ensure that students with special needs receive appropriate educational support while maintaining compliance with applicable laws.

Job Overview:

This role involves providing expert legal counsel to school districts on special education matters, representing clients during disputes, and offering guidance on the development and implementation of educational programs and policies that meet legal requirements.

Duties:

  • Represent school districts in legal matters concerning special education.
  • Advise school districts on laws related to special education, including IDEA, ADA, and Section 504.
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
  • Represent school districts in due process hearings, mediation, and compliance disputes.
  • Provide training to school staff on compliance with special education laws.
  • Develop legal strategies to ensure that school policies comply with current regulations.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and staff to address legal challenges and ensure compliance.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in special education law.
  • Strong understanding of special education laws, including IDEA, ADA, Section 504, and other relevant regulations.
  • Proven experience representing school districts or related entities in due process hearings, mediation, and compliance matters.
  • Strong ability to provide strategic legal advice and handle complex legal issues.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders in educational settings.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar in good standing.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar.
