The ideal candidate will have a portable and consistent book of business exceeding $600,000, with expertise in various life science prosecution, transactional, and litigation matters. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership capabilities and a proven track record of success in managing complex intellectual property issues in the life sciences sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Development:

    • Develop and maintain a portable, consistent business book valued at $600,000.
    • Cultivate and manage client relationships to drive business growth and client retention.
    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the life sciences industry.
  • Legal Expertise:

    • Provide expert legal counsel on various life science intellectual property matters, including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.
    • Handle complex life science IP prosecution, including patent applications, office actions, and appeals.
    • Manage transactional matters, including licensing agreements, collaborations, and mergers & acquisitions.
    • Represent clients in IP litigation, including infringement actions and disputes.
  • Leadership and Management:

    • Lead and mentor junior attorneys and support staff within the IP practice group.
    • Oversee case strategy and ensure the quality and effectiveness of legal services provided.
    • Collaborate with other practice groups to deliver comprehensive solutions to clients.
  • Client Interaction:

    • Act as a primary point of contact for key clients, providing strategic advice and guidance.
    • Prepare and present legal opinions, briefs, and other documents as needed.
    • Negotiate and draft complex IP-related agreements and contracts.

Requirements

  • Experience:

    • Experience in intellectual property law with a focus on life sciences.
    • Proven track record of managing a substantial business book and handling complex IP matters.
  • Education:

    • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as biology, chemistry, or a related life science discipline.
  • Certifications:

    • Admission to the State Bar of California.
