Job Title: Employee Benefits Associate Attorney

Job Location: Virginia Beach, VA

Job Overview: A well-established law firm is currently seeking a skilled Employee Benefits Associate Attorney to join its dynamic ESOPs, Benefits & Compensation team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong background in employee benefits, executive compensation, and ERISA matters. The firm serves a wide range of clients, including privately held, publicly traded, governmental, and tax-exempt organizations, and provides counsel on various complex benefits-related matters.

Duties:

  • Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of employee benefits issues, including qualified retirement plans, ESOPs, nonqualified deferred compensation plans, equity compensation, and welfare benefits.

  • Advise clients on employee benefits issues related to mergers and acquisitions, IRS and DOL audits, and executive employment agreements.

  • Help grow and develop the firm's ESOP practice while collaborating with other team members to expand capabilities and build the client base.

  • Work closely with clients and attorneys to offer proactive and independent advice on all aspects of employee benefits and executive compensation.

  • Handle compliance with ERISA regulations and other related laws and regulations.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in employee benefits and executive compensation matters, preferably within a law firm environment.

  • Experience with private-company ESOPs is advantageous but not mandatory.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently.

  • Proactive attitude and ability to build and maintain relationships with clients.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Virginia or North Carolina Bar, or the ability to become licensed and remain in good standing.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of employee benefits law, including ERISA.

  • Familiarity with executive compensation structures and related legal compliance.

  • Proficiency in handling regulatory and compliance issues related to employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs) and other benefits programs.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Excellent communication and client interaction skills.
