A reputable law firm is seeking a skilled Tax Associate Attorney to join its transactional tax practice. This opportunity is ideal for a motivated attorney with 3-5 years of experience who is eager to engage in a wide range of tax-related matters. The role involves providing expert legal guidance in areas such as fund formation, REITs, joint ventures, private equity, and M&A transactions, with a focus on both the technical and strategic aspects of tax law.

Duties

  • Advise clients on complex transactional tax issues, including those related to mergers and acquisitions, partnership taxation, and private equity structures.
  • Provide support in fund formation and real estate investment trusts (REITs), offering strategic insight on tax implications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on various joint ventures and other corporate transactions.
  • Draft and review documents related to tax planning, compliance, and structuring.
  • Conduct legal research on evolving tax regulations and how they affect client transactions.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, offering clear and concise explanations of tax laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in transactional tax law.
  • In-depth experience with general M&A, partnership issues, and corporate transactions.
  • Must be licensed and in good standing to practice law in Michigan.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • LL.M. in Taxation is preferred or equivalent tax coursework during JD studies.

Certifications

  • Admission to the Michigan Bar.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of tax law, particularly in M&A, private equity, and partnership taxation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex legal and tax issues and provide practical solutions.
