A law firm seeks a Technology Specialist or Patent Agent with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a related field to enhance its Pharmaceutical practice group. The ideal candidate will be located in Washington, D.C., or other preferred office locations, such as Boston or New York. This role is essential for fostering innovation and protecting intellectual property in the pharmaceutical sector.

Duties

  • Analyze technical disclosures and engage in client discussions to gain insights into new inventions.
  • Conduct comprehensive literature and patent database searches to assess the patentability of innovations.
  • Prepare detailed written evaluations regarding the likelihood of securing patent protection.
  • Draft patent applications with precision and clarity.
  • Respond to communications from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) effectively.
  • Formulate compelling arguments for patentability to present to Patent Office Examiners.
  • Review existing patents as part of intellectual property due diligence for potential mergers or acquisitions.

Requirements

  • An advanced degree (Ph.D.) in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within team environments.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, maturity, and a strong desire to explore new ideas.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact successfully with business leaders, attorneys, scientists, engineers, inventors, and patent examiners.
  • A robust work ethic with the capability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

Education

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a relevant scientific field.

Certifications
