Litigation Attorney

Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a skilled and experienced Litigation Attorney to join its team in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will assist partners in managing various defense practices, handle cases from inception through trial, and engage in all aspects of litigation. The firm offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary reviewed annually, an associate bonus program, and a year-end bonus.

Duties:

• Assist partners in managing insurance, personal injury, premises, insurance broker E&O, municipal, and coverage defense practices
• Defend case files from inception through trial
• Handle depositions of parties, witnesses, treating physicians, and experts
• Draft and argue routine and substantive motions
• Attend court hearings in various counties and courthouses, as well as via Zoom
• Prepare status and trial strategy reports for clients
• Conduct examinations under oath
• Perform ancillary legal research and author coverage opinions for claims adjusting personnel and in-house counsel
• Draft and prosecute declaratory judgment actions on insurance coverage questions
• Defend contractual and extracontractual coverage actions
• Manage all aspects of discovery, including drafting and answering interrogatories, production requests, and requests to admit

Requirements:

• 3+ years of litigation experience
• Good standing with the Illinois Bar; Indiana license preferred
• Experience in Illinois state and federal courts, including the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois
• Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written
• Willingness to proactively seek guidance with work tasks when necessary
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Deposition experience preferred
• Meaningful litigation experience preferred

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Licensed to practice law in Illinois; Indiana license preferred

• Proficient in legal research and analytical skills
• Ability to handle multiple cases and manage time effectively
• Competence in drafting legal documents and motions
• Excellent negotiation and advocacy skills
