The law firm, located in San Francisco, is actively seeking a Mid-level Patent Agent to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, substantial law firm or industry experience, and exceptional communication skills. The role requires expertise in electrical engineering or computer science, with a focus on patent prosecution in related technologies. The candidate should also have experience in data science/AI, networking technologies (especially network security), and machine learning/artificial intelligence (including data science), with a preference for hardware security. Admission to the USPTO is a mandatory requirement.

 

Duties:

  • Conduct patent searches and analyses.
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the fields of electrical engineering, software-related technologies, data science/AI, networking technologies, and machine learning/artificial intelligence.
  • Provide technical expertise and legal advice on patent matters.
  • Collaborate with inventors, attorneys, and clients to understand and assess inventions.
  • Evaluate patent portfolios and perform due diligence.

 

Requirements:

  • A degree in electrical engineering or computer science.
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is mandatory.
  • 4+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.
  • The solid law firm, engineering, or industry experience.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Patent prosecution in electrical engineering or software-related technologies.
  • Experience in data science/AI, networking technologies (especially network security), and machine learning/artificial intelligence (including data science) with a preference for hardware security.

 

Skills:

  • Strong technical and legal writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical and research skills for patent searches and analyses.
  • Expertise in patent prosecution.
  • Knowledge of data science/AI, networking technologies, and machine learning/artificial intelligence.
