Job Overview:
A growing and dynamic law firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its General Liability litigation group in Richmond, VA. This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong litigation skills and a commitment to excellence. The firm offers a collaborative work environment, allowing associates to grow under the mentorship of experienced attorneys. The ideal candidate will have a passion for litigation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Location:

  • Richmond, VA

Duties:

  • Conduct file reviews and provide legal analysis of claims and causes of action
  • Perform extensive legal research and draft briefs, memos, pleadings, and appellate briefs
  • Maintain an annual billable requirement of 1950 hours
  • Represent clients regularly in court, arbitrations, and depositions
  • Draft and respond to discovery requests
  • Manage expert witness retention and collaboration
  • Assist with trial preparation and attend trials as required
  • Participate in negotiations and mediations
  • Some travel may be required

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of General Liability experience (workers' compensation experience is a plus)
  • Experience handling civil cases from inception to conclusion
  • Proficiency in taking and defending depositions, including 30(b)(6) and expert depositions
  • Skilled in drafting and arguing substantive motions, attending hearings, and participating in trials
  • Experience in negotiations and mediations
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Admission to practice in Virginia (admission to other states is a plus)
  • Strong analytical, research, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and a proactive approach to case management
  • Timely responsiveness to emails and phone inquiries
  • Excellent client management skills and telephone manner

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Virginia State Bar (additional state bar admissions are a plus)

Skills:

  • Exceptional legal research and writing skills
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities
  • Experience in civil litigation, particularly in general liability cases
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases
  • Client-focused approach and excellent interpersonal skills
