Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking a mid to senior-level associate to join its Energy, Infrastructure, and Project Finance team. This role offers an opportunity to represent clients in a growing industry and take on substantive responsibility with client contact, working on transactions related to the development, acquisition, and financing of renewable energy projects.

Location:

  • Chicago, IL

Duties:

  • Represent sponsors and financing parties in energy project development, acquisitions, and financing transactions.

  • Draft and negotiate project development and operation contracts, including EPC Contracts, Supply Agreements, Offtake Agreements, and O&M Agreements.

  • Work on ancillary financing documents for debt work, tax equity transactions, or M&A transactions.

  • Conduct legal research and provide strategic advice on energy industry-related matters.

  • Communicate directly with clients and third-party advisors regularly.

  • Manage projects independently while collaborating effectively with a legal team.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in the energy industry at a large law firm or comparable in-house counsel role.

  • Strong familiarity with project development, M&A, or finance work in the energy sector.

  • Proven ability to draft and negotiate key project and financing contracts.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in good standing with the state bar where the candidate resides.

Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong research and analytical abilities.

  • Ability to take ownership of projects and work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Experience handling complex energy transactions.
