Job Overview: A respected law firm is seeking an experienced Construction Attorney to join its practice in Kansas City. The ideal candidate will have experience representing design and construction professionals, as well as institutional owners, in contract development, dispute avoidance, and construction litigation. This position offers significant responsibility in drafting and negotiating design and construction contracts, preparing and handling lawsuits and arbitrations, and arguing appeals.

Location:

Duties:

  • Draft and negotiate design and construction contracts.
  • Represent clients in construction-related disputes, including preparing lawsuits, handling arbitrations, and presenting appeals.
  • Provide legal counsel on construction project management, dispute avoidance, and contractual issues.
  • Participate in the development of strategies for handling construction litigation matters.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their needs and provide solutions in construction law matters.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and manage expectations throughout the legal process.
  • Handle legal research, filings, and other administrative duties related to ongoing cases.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing construction law.
  • Ability to represent design and construction professionals as well as institutional owners.
  • Strong experience in litigation, arbitration, and appeals related to construction law.
  • Excellent academic credentials and a focus on superior client service.
  • Licensed to practice law in Kansas and Missouri, or the ability to obtain a license in both states.
  • Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills for working in a collaborative team environment.
  • Knowledge of engineering, architecture, or construction is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Kansas and Missouri (or ability to obtain licensure).

Skills:

  • Expertise in construction law, including contract negotiation, litigation, and dispute resolution.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
