A law firm in Rochester is seeking a Default Department Attorney to provide legal counsel to clients and manage various aspects of default litigation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for consulting with clients on legal best practices, reviewing and preparing legal documents, conducting legal research, and representing clients in hearings and court appearances.

 

Duties:

  • Consult with clients to provide legal advice and develop strategies for handling default litigation matters.
  • Review, prepare, and draft legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and memoranda.
  • Analyze pleadings and determine the most effective course of action for each case.
  • Conduct legal research to stay updated on case law, rules, regulations, and laws relevant to default litigation.
  • Adhere to a consistent schedule of hearings, court appearances, and case-related conferences.
  • Supervise and collaborate with support staff to ensure efficient case management.
  • Utilize strong communication skills to effectively advocate for clients and negotiate settlements.
  • Demonstrate skills of persuasion and negotiation in resolving disputes.
  • Maintain strong time management and organizational skills to handle multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Utilize strong computer skills and competency to manage case-related documents and information.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the State Bar of New York or eligible for admission.
  • Experience in default litigation or related areas such as bankruptcy, evictions, or other areas of civil litigation strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong skills of persuasion and negotiation.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
  • Proficiency in legal research and writing.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in legal software and Microsoft Office suite.
