Job Overview:
A law firm located in Winston-Salem, NC is seeking an experienced mid-level Associate Attorney to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group. This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of patent prosecution matters, with a focus on drafting patent applications. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in patent prosecution and a background in mechanical or electrical engineering, or a related technical field.

Duties:

  • Draft and file patent applications with the USPTO
  • Provide strategic advice on patent prosecution, including preparing responses to office actions and managing client portfolios
  • Work collaboratively with senior attorneys and clients to develop patent strategies and resolve complex legal issues
  • Engage in patent litigation support as needed, including preparing evidence, witness statements, and other legal documents
  • Stay up-to-date on developments in patent law and related intellectual property matters
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding legal and technical matters

Requirements:

  • 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, with a strong emphasis on application drafting
  • Proven expertise in patent law and the ability to navigate complex legal and technical issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Must be registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Barred in the state of North Carolina

Education:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field

Certifications:

  • Must be registered with the USPTO

Skills:

  • Proficient in patent application drafting and prosecution
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
