Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a highly qualified Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate Attorney with 5-7 years of experience to join its team. This position is ideal for an individual with a strong background in privacy-related litigation or transactional work, with expertise in federal and state privacy laws such as CCPA, GLBA, and HIPAA. The firm offers flexibility in office location, with a preference for Chicago or Dallas, and a hybrid work schedule with in-office expectations. The ideal candidate will have experience in breach response, compliance counseling, and risk management.

Location:

  • Lansing, MI

Duties:

  • Advise clients on data privacy and cybersecurity compliance, including federal and state privacy laws (e.g., CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA)
  • Handle privacy-related litigation, including class action cases
  • Draft and negotiate vendor and business customer service agreements
  • Assist clients in breach response, risk management, and compliance counseling
  • Work collaboratively with other team members and partners on privacy and cybersecurity matters
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships
  • Participate in business development and help attract new clients
  • Engage in continuous professional development and legal research

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of experience in data privacy and cybersecurity law
  • Significant experience in privacy litigation and/or transactional work, particularly in vendor and business customer agreements
  • Deep knowledge of state and federal privacy laws, including CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, and related regulations
  • Experience with breach response, risk management, and compliance counseling
  • Admission to the State Bar
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and drafting skills
  • Ability to manage complex matters and work under tight deadlines

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar
  • CIPP/US certification is a plus but not required

Skills:

  • Expertise in data privacy and cybersecurity law
  • Experience in both litigation and transactional legal work
  • Strong knowledge of privacy laws and regulations
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
