A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent to join their New York City office. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, and have 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution. The Patent Agent will be responsible for drafting patent applications, prosecuting applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and supporting due diligence efforts. Strong time management, attention to detail, and analytical skills are essential for success in this fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft and file patent applications with the USPTO, ensuring compliance with all relevant guidelines and regulations.
  • Prosecute patent applications through the examination process, including responding to Office Actions and managing correspondence with the USPTO.
  • Conduct due diligence to support patent filings, including prior art searches and analysis.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to develop patent strategies and protect intellectual property.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple assignments from various partners and clients, meeting deadlines efficiently.
  • Review and analyze technical documents and inventions to prepare patent applications.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of patent filings and correspondence.
  • Provide technical and legal support in patent-related matters, including assisting in litigation and enforcement actions as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO; Patent Bar eligible.
  • If applicable, licensed to practice law in the respective state.
  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution or a related field.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and assignments.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in drafting and reviewing patent applications.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice before the USPTO.
  • Patent Bar eligibility.
  • (If applicable) State Bar License.
