Job Title: Senior Patent Agent

Job Overview: A law firm in San Antonio, TX, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Patent Agent to join their team. The ideal candidate will be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and possess over 10+ years of patent prosecution experience. The role requires a solid technical background in biological and pharmaceutical sciences, with expertise in conducting prior art searches, analyzing patents and scientific papers, and managing patent portfolios.

Duties:

• Conducting prior art searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses
• Analyzing patents and scientific papers to assist with patent preparation, prosecution, and counseling
• Managing patent portfolios and developing a patent strategy
• Collaborating with attorneys and clients on patent-related matters
• Providing technical expertise and guidance on patent issues
• Reviewing and drafting patent applications and responses to office actions
• Participating in client meetings and communications regarding patent matters
• Keeping abreast of relevant legal and technical developments in patent law

Requirements:

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• Ph.D. or M.S. focused in cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, virology, chemistry, organic chemistry, pharmacy, or equivalent discipline
• 10+ years of patent prosecution experience
• Technical background in biological sciences and pharmaceutical sciences preferred
• Broad technical knowledge in relevant fields
• Experience with patent portfolio management and strategy development
• Excellent academic record
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, fluency in English

Education and Certifications:

• Ph.D. or M.S. in relevant technical field
• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

Skills:

• Proficiency in conducting prior art searches and analyses
• Ability to analyze patents and scientific papers effectively
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail and accuracy in drafting patent documents
