A law firm in Manchester, NH is seeking an experienced Tax Attorney with a strong background in handling complex tax matters related to individual, partnership, and corporate tax structures. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive legal advice on the tax consequences, risks, and opportunities associated with business transactions and entity structures, and lead the firm's tax practice. The role requires significant expertise in tax law and leadership skills.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel on tax consequences, risks, and opportunities for business structures and transactions.
  • Advise clients on individual, partnership, and corporate tax matters in complex commercial transactions.
  • Structure mergers, acquisitions, business formations, and debt and equity financing.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of employee compensation and benefit plans.
  • Draft memoranda and legal documents related to tax matters.
  • Address tax controversy issues, representing clients in negotiations and disputes with tax authorities.
  • Collaborate with clients across various industries to provide tailored tax advice.
  • Offer expertise in affordable housing tax credits, sales and use tax, estate planning, and qualified plans, if applicable.

Requirements:

  • 20+ years of experience in tax law with a demonstrated ability to lead.
  • Proven experience advising on complex tax matters, including business formations, mergers and acquisitions, and financing.
  • A portable practice (not necessarily self-sustaining).
  • Experience with affordable housing tax credits, sales and use tax, estate planning, and qualified plans is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to approach multifaceted issues creatively.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar in New Hampshire (or eligibility to be admitted).

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of individual, partnership, and corporate tax regulations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in drafting and reviewing legal memoranda and documents related to tax law.
  • Strong leadership and client management skills.
