Job Overview
A law firm is seeking an experienced and dedicated Associate Attorney to handle a diverse and sizable caseload of immigration matters. The role involves representing clients in immigration proceedings, preparing legal documents, providing strategic legal advice, and ensuring effective communication with clients throughout their cases. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing, organizational, and time management skills and be committed to handling sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.

Duties

  • Represent clients in various immigration proceedings
  • Prepare legal documents, including petitions, applications, and appeals
  • Advise clients on immigration-related matters, providing updates and strategic guidance
  • Conduct thorough consultations with clients and make appropriate recommendations or referrals
  • Enter all billable and non-billable time in management software
  • Maintain case management systems and ensure accurate records of deadlines and filings
  • Prepare clients for USCIS interviews and other court appearances
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and managing partners in developing case strategies
  • Work closely with paralegals to mentor and monitor case progress
  • Review and finalize legal filings before submission to government agencies
  • Attend and present at local, state, regional, and national immigration law conferences
  • Participate in bi-weekly attorney meetings and complete Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses
  • Adhere to the firm’s culture, values, and technology standards

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Active and in good standing with any U.S. State Bar (Louisiana Bar preferred)
  • Proficiency in Spanish is highly preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Experience in handling sensitive matters and maintaining confidentiality
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
