Insurance Defense Attorney

A law firm seeks an experienced and self-motivated Insurance Defense Attorney to join its team remotely in Oakland, CA. This full-time position offers the opportunity to manage a diverse range of insurance defense matters, including bodily injury defense, construction defects, and employment law. The ideal candidate will have experience in litigation and will be comfortable managing cases from start to finish while working both independently and collaboratively with a team. This position provides flexibility, autonomy, and the chance to work on complex legal issues while maintaining a strong client-focused approach.

Duties

• Manage and represent clients in various insurance defense matters, including bodily injury claims, construction defects, and employment-related litigation
• Independently handle cases from inception through resolution, including drafting legal documents, taking depositions, and attending court hearings
• Develop legal strategies and provide clients with sound legal advice on complex matters
• Work collaboratively with other attorneys on case development, while maintaining individual responsibility for assigned cases
• Draft and argue motions, including dispositive motions and motions in limine
• Negotiate settlements and manage the settlement process effectively
• Communicate regularly with clients to provide updates, explain legal options, and ensure exceptional client service
• Maintain organized case files, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards
• Stay updated on legal trends and changes in insurance defense law

Requirements

• Experience in insurance defense, particularly in bodily injury, construction defects, or employment law
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
• Active membership in the California State Bar, in good standing
• Proven experience managing complex litigation cases from start to finish
• Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
• Ability to independently manage cases and prioritize responsibilities
• Excellent negotiation and settlement skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to maintain client relationships
• Ability to work effectively in a remote, flexible environment

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

• Active California State Bar membership (additional state Bar licensure is a plus)
