Entry-level Immigration Attorney

A law firm seeks an enthusiastic and motivated Entry-Level Immigration Attorney to join its team in Fresno, CA. This is a great opportunity for a recent law school graduate or attorney with limited experience to gain hands-on experience in immigration law. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to help clients navigate complex immigration processes and grow within a supportive and dynamic legal environment. In this role, you will have the chance to handle your caseload, work closely with senior attorneys, and gain exposure to a variety of immigration cases, including removal defense and family-based petitions.

Duties:

• Provide legal guidance on immigration concepts and propose strategic solutions to clients.
• Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
• Manage a caseload of immigration cases, including preparation and filing of petitions and applications.
• Conduct client intakes, including visits to detention centers for intake procedures.
• Draft and prepare diverse immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions.
• Review and adjust immigration application packets to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal standards.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations to stay current on immigration law changes.
• Conduct consultations with potential clients, assessing their cases and formulating legal strategies.
• Develop strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court hearings or USCIS testimony.
• Analyze cases to determine potential benefits and provide legal insights to clients.
• Draft and submit legal briefs for various immigration-related cases.

Requirements:

• Strong interest in immigration law, demonstrated through law school clinics, volunteer work, or internships.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active bar admission in the state (or pending bar admission for recent graduates).
• A team-oriented attitude, open to collaborating with colleagues and sharing strategies.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred, but not required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on client communication and relationship-building.
• Ability to move cases forward efficiently and independently manage a caseload.
• Familiarity with case management software is preferred.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Admission to the State Bar (or pending bar admission for recent graduates).

Skills:

• Strong communication and client relationship skills.
• Ability to draft and review immigration petitions and applications.
• Knowledge of immigration law and procedure, with an interest in learning and growing in the field.
• Proficient in legal research and writing.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Case management software experience is a plus.
