A law firm located in Ft. Lauderdale, FL is seeking an Associate Attorney with 2-8 years of defense litigation experience. The candidate will handle a caseload involving substantial litigation defense, which may include various practice areas such as workers' compensation. Responsibilities include drafting pleadings, motions, orders, and legal memoranda, conducting legal research, preparing and taking depositions, reviewing client documents, and interacting with clients, claim professionals, opposing counsel, colleagues, and staff. Additional state admissions are preferred. Experienced associates will handle defense litigation matters involving general liability.

 

Duties:

  • Handle a caseload involving substantial litigation defense, including workers' compensation and general liability matters.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, orders, and legal memoranda.
  • Draft and respond to written discovery and dispositive motions.
  • Conduct legal research competently and with proficiency.
  • Prepare and take depositions of parties and experts.
  • Review client documents, draft case evaluations, and status report correspondence.
  • Review, assess, and handle matters from inception to trial.
  • Assist with and participate in mediations and court appearances.
  • Interact directly with clients, claim professionals, opposing counsel, colleagues, and staff.
  • Proactively work independently and as part of a team.

 

Requirements:

  • Proficiency with MS Office including Excel, Outlook, and navigating the internet.
  • Must be licensed to practice in Florida courts.
  • Additional state admissions preferred.
  • 2-8 years of defense litigation experience.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

 

Certifications:

Admission to practice in Florida courts.

 

Skills:

  • Demonstrate strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail with superb organization and prioritization skills.
  • Move efficiently from case to case.
  • Have knowledge of both state and federal court procedures.
  • Litigation defense experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office
