Job Overview:
A reputable law firm is seeking a highly skilled Patent Agent to join its dynamic Intellectual Property group. The role provides the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of patent preparation and prosecution. Ideal candidates will have expertise in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or related fields, and experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, particularly in AI and machine learning technologies. The position offers a collaborative environment with a focus on client success.

Location:

  • Indianapolis, IN

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications in electrical engineering, computer science, software, and related technologies
  • Work closely with clients to understand their inventions and develop appropriate patent strategies
  • Draft patent applications, including claims, specifications, and supporting documents
  • Represent clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Advise clients on patent portfolio management, IP strategy, and patentability assessments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment in client matters

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or related fields
  • Experience with AI and machine learning patent applications preferred
  • Admission to practice before the USPTO required
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, client-focused environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related technical field

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice before the USPTO
