Job Overview: A growing criminal defense law firm in Charlotte, NC, is seeking a dedicated and motivated entry-level associate attorney. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, client-focused, and eager to learn and practice criminal law. The position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously, and the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision. Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required.

Duties:

  • Conduct client intake and maintain regular client contact.
  • Handle out-of-county and court-appointed cases.
  • Conduct legal research and analyze state and federal statutes.
  • Draft legal pleadings, motions, and other court-related documents.
  • Participate in discovery, depositions, and trial preparation.
  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and government agencies.
  • Attend court proceedings, pre-trial conferences, and legal seminars.
  • File documents in court and perform legal records searches.
  • Collaborate with legal teams on trial strategy and case management.
  • Participate in negotiations and settlements with opposing counsel.
  • Conduct fact investigations, prepare exhibits, and schedule witnesses.
  • Engage in community leadership activities and firm marketing efforts.

Requirements:

  • 0-3 years of experience as a licensed attorney.
  • Active membership in the North Carolina State Bar.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with legal documents and terminology.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential client information with discretion.
  • Willingness to engage in community and firm marketing initiatives.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active North Carolina Bar License (Required).
