Complex Litigation Associate Attorney

A law firm in New York City is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Complex Litigation Associate Attorney with 4-6 years of commercial litigation experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in research, writing, and analysis, as well as familiarity with both federal and state procedural rules. This position requires a candidate who can work independently, manage cases with minimal supervision, and has an interest in taking significant responsibility for cases. A judicial clerkship and court appearance experience are beneficial.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough legal research and analysis for complex litigation matters.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents with precision and clarity.
• Manage all aspects of the discovery process, including document production, review, and taking/defending depositions.
• Represent clients in court, handling hearings and other court appearances, either as first or second chair.
• Develop case strategies and provide legal advice to clients regarding potential outcomes.
• Prepare for and attend mediations, settlement conferences, and negotiations.
• Work closely with senior attorneys and clients to develop legal strategies and manage case progression.
• Oversee case files, ensuring that deadlines are met and filings are accurate and timely.
• Assist with trial preparation, including drafting trial briefs, witness preparation, and managing trial exhibits.

Requirements:

• Must have 4-6 years of experience in commercial litigation, with a demonstrated ability to handle complex legal issues.
• Strong knowledge of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and New York Civil Practice Law and Rules (CPLR).
• Proven ability to take and defend depositions, handle discovery, and manage case filings.
• Experience making court appearances, including arguing motions and managing pre-trial proceedings.
• Interest and ability to take responsibility for cases, including client communication and case management.

Education & Certifications:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
• Judicial clerkship experience is a plus.

Although more commonly thought of as a Washington, DC, firm, this New York office has many of the same practice areas.
