Job Overview

A well-established law firm is seeking a dedicated and experienced attorney to join its Government Law Group. This role involves providing legal counsel and representation to municipalities, counties, and local agencies across Northern Virginia. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in litigation or governmental legal matters and the ability to handle a variety of legal issues affecting local governments.

Duties

• Provide legal guidance to local government entities on a wide range of matters.
• Represent clients in court proceedings, including Juvenile & Domestic Relations, General District, and Circuit Courts in Northern Virginia.
• Attend and advise at local government meetings across the region.
• Draft and review legal documents, ordinances, and policies for municipal clients.
• Conduct legal research and provide strategic recommendations on governance, compliance, and public sector regulations.
• Collaborate with senior attorneys and public officials to address complex legal challenges.

Requirements

• Active Virginia bar license.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in litigation, in-house counsel for a locality, or work with the Department of Social Services.
• Strong client service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with public officials and community stakeholders.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Willingness to travel within Virginia to attend local government meetings.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in Virginia.

Skills

• Strong legal research and analytical abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of public sector and local government law preferred.
