A law firm is seeking a highly skilled Workers' Compensation Attorney to join their team in Charlotte, NC. The successful candidate will have over 5 years of experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases, particularly on the plaintiff's side. This role involves representing injured plaintiff-employees throughout the legal process, from initial case assessment to litigation at various levels, while managing case staff and ensuring optimal client outcomes.

Duties:

  • Represent injured plaintiff-employees in North Carolina Workers’ Compensation cases at the Deputy Commissioner, Full Commission, and North Carolina Court of Appeals levels.
  • Provide comprehensive legal advice and representation through all stages of Workers’ Compensation cases, including pre- and post-litigation, discovery, and settlement negotiations.
  • Assist clients in obtaining benefits under the North Carolina Workers’ Compensation Act.
  • Litigate Workers’ Compensation cases effectively at the Deputy Commissioner, Full Commission, and Court of Appeals levels.
  • Draft and prepare pleadings, discovery requests, orders, and motions.
  • Negotiate settlement terms and language of agreements, releases, and job resignations on behalf of clients.
  • Prepare and draft briefs for submission at the Deputy Commissioner and Full Commission levels of the NC Industrial Commission, as well as the NC Court of Appeals.
  • Oversee and manage Workers’ Compensation Case Managers and Paralegals, ensuring efficient case management and support.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in North Carolina.
  • 5+ years of legal experience in a Workers’ Compensation law firm and/or insurance defense firm, with a preference for plaintiff’s side experience.
  • Experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation claims.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and opposing parties.
  • Self-motivated with the initiative to work independently and manage case responsibilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and maintain high attention to detail.
  • Extensive knowledge of medical issues in contested and accepted Workers’ Compensation claims, as well as the hearing process.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows/Office and ability to learn and use various software programs.
  • Experience using Litify software is preferred.
