Job Title: Associate Attorney (Hybrid)

Job Location: San Diego, CA

Job Overview: A respected and expanding law firm with over 50 years of experience in workers’ compensation defense is looking for an Associate Attorney to join their team. The firm offers a supportive and dynamic work environment that focuses on providing top-tier legal services while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. This position will involve defending Employer and Insurance Carrier clients at Workers’ Compensation Appeals Boards across California. While prior experience in workers’ compensation law is not required, the firm is seeking a motivated self-starter ready to take on litigation caseloads with guidance and mentorship.

Duties:

  • Manage day-to-day caseload with oversight from senior attorneys.
  • Develop litigation strategies from case initiation through to resolution.
  • Take depositions of injured workers, medical professionals, and other relevant witnesses.
  • Review and analyze medical and claim-related documentation.
  • Represent clients at Workers’ Compensation Appeals Boards across California (both remotely and in person).
  • Communicate effectively with clients, providing updates and addressing concerns throughout the litigation process.
  • Advocate for clients, working towards the resolution of claims.

Requirements:

  • Active California State Bar license.
  • No prior workers' compensation experience is required; however, experienced attorneys are also encouraged to apply.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid foundation in legal principles and procedures.
  • Ability to manage cases remotely or attend in-person proceedings (if located near one of the firm’s offices).

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in California (California State Bar).

Skills:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret legal documents and medical records.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency in legal research and litigation management.
