Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is looking to hire a talented Defense Litigation Associate Attorney to join their Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team, with a focus on asbestos litigation. This is an exciting opportunity for an attorney with a strong background in toxic tort matters who thrives in a collaborative environment. The position offers exposure to high-profile cases and requires a mix of litigation skills, including deposition experience, motion practice, and courtroom appearances.

Duties:

  • Regularly take and defend depositions in asbestos-related matters
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and collaborate with senior attorneys to devise proactive defense strategies
  • Manage asbestos-related claims through various phases, including dismissal, settlement, motion practice, or trial
  • Draft legal documents, such as memoranda, pleadings, and motions
  • Represent clients at courtroom appearances and hearings
  • Maintain a minimum of 1900 billable hours annually

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of deposition and courtroom experience, particularly in toxic tort cases; specific experience in asbestos defense preferred
  • Admission to the New York Bar required
  • Admission to Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into New Jersey)
  • Proficiency with Zoom, MS Teams, and other video conferencing tools for depositions and court conferences
  • Ability to travel as needed for depositions and court appearances, including overnight travel
  • Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a demanding workload
  • Ability to absorb and understand new information quickly
  • High level of responsibility, attention to detail, and self-discipline
  • Positive, professional, and flexible attitude
  • Military experience is welcome and valued

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar (required)
  • Admission to Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bars preferred
